Breathwork is a powerful practice that uses our breath to enter an altered state of consciousness, allowing us to tap into deeper layers of our mind and body. At ATTIKA, we incorporate techniques inspired by the Wim Hof Method’s vagus nerve training, Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Pineal Gland Activation and Breathe with Sandy relaxation techniques.
Breathwork is the practice of consciously controlling our breath to shift our physiological and mental state. By hyperventilating (rapid, forceful inhales with passive exhales), we reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) levels and increase oxygen (O2) in the body.
This shift in gas exchange leads to a unique redistribution of blood flow: less blood in the prefrontal cortex (our “thinking brain”) and more in the limbic brain (our “emotional brain”). As a result, we can access and release trapped emotions, past traumas, and mental blockages that may be holding us back both mentally and physically. Stress sits in our body, breathwork helps us to release it and get it moving.
At ATTIKA, we use a combination of breathwork techniques to maximise the benefits:
1. Wim Hof-Inspired Hyperventilation and Breath Holds
The Wim Hof Method emphasises controlled hyperventilation followed by breath retention. This helps train the vagus nerve, the key regulator of our nervous system. By moving between states of heightened alertness (sympathetic nervous system) and relaxation (parasympathetic nervous system), we enhance our ability to manage stress and cultivate resilience.
2. Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Pineal Gland Activation
Inspired by Dr. Joe Dispenza, we incorporate techniques aimed at stimulating the pineal gland. This method involves specific breath holds and spinal contractions to activate cerebrospinal fluid movement. The pineal gland, often called the “seat of the soul,” plays a crucial role in regulating our circadian rhythm and is said even to trigger the release of small amounts of DMT. This natural psychedelic compound enhances our ability to access deeper states of consciousness.
3. Breathe with Sandy and other breathing meditation techniques
At ATTIKA we combine various breathing methods to keep you feeling safe and relaxed within your body before, after and during the experience.
With this integration of breathwork techniques, we can experience profound benefits, including:
Emotional Healing: Unlock and release suppressed emotions and trauma.
Stress Reduction: Train the nervous system to respond more calmly to stressors.
Enhanced Focus and Clarity: Improve cognitive function and mental clarity.
Deeper Connection with Self: Cultivate self-awareness and inner peace
Improved Physical Health: Boost oxygen levels, reduce inflammation, and strengthen the immune system.
Train your breathing: The diaphragm is a muscle. By using deep breaths through our stomach we can train our lungs to breath deeper breaths and increase our lung capacity which is better for overall oxygenation.
Breathwork is more than just a relaxation technique—it is a transformative practice that connects us to our deepest selves. At ATTIKA our main focus is that you feel comfortable and safe in your experience. We keep groups small and we encourage you to connect with others in the group before and after this powerful experience. Starting with a group connection, we share the science behind the method and answer any questions you might have. We then use slow breathing techniques to bring you into a state of calm.
Whether you're looking to manage stress, release emotional baggage, enhance mental clarity and focus or explore altered states of consciousness, breathwork offers a profound path to discovering more about you.
